WELCOMING REFUGEES
Our organisation is a technical secondary school which is situated in a good residential area of the city, but for the educational curricula it offers (our pupils after 5 years get a: Mechanical, Electrotechnical, Chemical, or ICT TECHNICIAN diploma),gathers pupils coming from the most disadvantaged Neapolitan suburbs populated by families whose breadwinners are often unemployed or work by the piece. Our pupils' age ranges from 14 to19,among them there are immigrants, refugees, pupils with special needs, who are often objects of bullism ,intollerance and racism. The frustration comes out from the fact that ,most of our students are not motivated to school in general, they know that after their studies it will be very hard to find a job. We try to explain them that if they succeed in acquiring the skills and competences that such diplomas generally provide them ,they will have more chances in acquiring a place in the current difficult world of work . Indeed the Neapolitan area has one of highest youth unemployed rate (it is nearly the 50%); so we want to provide our pupils with the right tools and instruments permitting them come out from their disadvantaged conditions as we are conscious that the school represents their only point of reference. Structurally our school is very big also because we joined to another school and now our organization welcomes about 900 pupils with150 teachers. Today, our Educational offer provides our pupils two qualifying course more. Institutionally ,our schooling format has two basic terms during which our pupils study basic disciplines, after two terms, students choose their specialization: ICT and communications, Mechanics, Electrotecnics or Chemistry.
